Why Roofing Insurance Is Different

Roofing is the highest-risk trade in construction. Generic insurance programs leave roofers exposed to the claims that matter most.

Height Exposure and Fall Claims

Roofing is classified as the highest-risk construction trade. Falls from height generate the most expensive workers comp and GL claims in the industry. Standard policies often exclude or sublimit height-related work.

Subcontractor Compliance

Using roofing subs without verified coverage creates direct liability for your company. One uninsured sub can trigger a claim that flows back to your GL and WC policies.

Completed Operations Risk

A roof you installed 3 years ago starts leaking. The resulting water damage claim hits your completed operations coverage, if you have it. Many roofers don't carry this critical protection.

Storm Season Exposure

Florida's hurricane season creates surge demand and surge risk. Temporary crews, rushed timelines, and high-volume re-roofs multiply your exposure when you can least afford a gap.

Insurance Programs Built for Roofing Operations

We understand how roofing companies operate in Florida: the seasonal surges, the subcontractor networks, the GC requirements, and the completed operations exposure that follows every job. Our programs are structured around these realities, not around a generic template.

Chris Irion has spent over 30 years working with contractors in the construction industry. That experience means we know which carriers want to write roofing business, which endorsements your contracts require, and how to structure your program to control audit exposure.

Roofing Insurance FAQ

General liability insurance for Florida roofers covers third-party bodily injury and property damage claims arising from your roofing operations. This includes injuries to non-employees on or near the jobsite, damage to a client's property during roof work, and completed operations claims such as leaks discovered after installation. It also covers your legal defense costs if a claim is filed against you.

Roofing insurance costs in Florida vary based on your annual revenue, payroll, number of employees, claims history, and the types of roofing work you perform. Roofing is classified as high-risk construction, so premiums are typically higher than other trades. A structured program that accounts for your specific operations can help control costs while maintaining proper coverage.

In Florida, construction businesses with one or more employees are required to carry workers compensation insurance. Sole proprietors can elect to be exempt, but many general contractors and project owners require workers comp coverage from all subcontractors regardless of exemption status. Without it, you may lose access to jobs.

Most Florida general contractors require roofing subcontractors to carry a minimum of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 general aggregate in general liability coverage. Many also require additional insured endorsements, waivers of subrogation, and primary and non-contributory language. Some larger projects or commercial GCs require $5,000,000 or more in total limits through an umbrella policy.

Only if your policy includes completed operations coverage. Standard GL policies cover claims that occur during your work, but completed operations extends that protection to claims arising after the job is finished, such as roof leaks causing interior water damage months or years later. For roofers, this coverage is critical and should be explicitly included in your policy.
